
Communications Advisor
REGENT PARK COMMUNITYHEALTH CENTRE
We are a dynamic community-based health centre promoting social justice and health equity in the Regent Park neighbourhood and Downtown East area of Toronto. We operate out of several locations and provide a wide variety of services including: primary health care, chiropody, physiotherapy, health promotion, social work, community health, immigrant and refugee services, harm reduction and homeless programs, addiction and recovery services, Pathways to Education, infant and child development programs, parenting programs, and youth employment services.
We are currently hiring for a full-time permanent Communications Advisor
Hours 35 hours/week
Hourly Range: $32.10 - $38.67 plus benefits and HOOPP Pension

Position Summary
The Communications Advisor is responsible for planning, developing and implementing communications strategies that strengthen the organization's reputation, increase awareness of programs and services, and support organizational priorities. Reporting to the Executive Director, the position provides communications support to the Strategic Management Team while partnering with program teams to promote services, engage communities, and advance health equity.
Responsibilities Include:
- Provide strategic communications support to senior leadership, and the Board including executive messaging, presentations, briefing materials, organizational announcements and communications for strategic and change initiatives.
- Coordinate communications and materials for Board and governance activities, AGMs, annual reports, strategic planning, performance reporting and organizational publications.
- Protect and strengthen the organization’s brand and reputation through consistent messaging, brand standards, media relations, issues management and crisis communications.
- Provide communications expertise to organizational planning and strategic initiatives, including environmental scanning, while managing sensitive and confidential executive, Board and organizational information.
- Develop and implement communications plans that promote programs, services, campaigns, events, health promotion activities and community initiatives.
- Research, write, edit and produce accessible, engaging and culturally responsive content for print, digital and organizational communications channels.
- Manage social media and digital communications, including content planning, multimedia development, audience engagement, inquiries, analytics and continuous improvement.
- Design and coordinate branded graphics, infographics, presentations, promotional materials, templates and digital assets.
- Coordinate internal communications and staff engagement activities that keep employees informed, connected and engaged in organizational priorities.
- Develop communications that support community outreach, stakeholder engagement, partnerships, collaborative initiatives and organizational participation in community activities.
- Monitor and evaluate communications activities using analytics, audience feedback and other measures, and recommend improvements to strengthen reach and impact.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Degree or diploma in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Journalism or a related discipline. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Minimum of 3–5 years of progressive experience in communications, public relations or corporate communications.
- Experience developing both strategic and operational communications plans.
- Experience supporting senior leadership or executive communications is considered an asset.
- Experience in the community health, healthcare, non-profit or public sector is preferred.
- Exceptional written, editing and verbal communication skills, storytelling and content development skills.
- Strong understanding of strategic communications and brand management.
- Experience developing communications for multiple audiences, including executives, staff, community members and external stakeholders.
- Knowledge and experience of social media, digital marketing and communications analytics and website content management systems.
- Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite, Canva or equivalent graphic design software.
- Strong project coordination and organizational skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and competing deadlines.
- Sound judgment and political acuity when handling sensitive communications.
- Knowledge of accessibility standards (AODA), plain language principles and inclusive communications.
- Understanding of health equity, anti-oppressive practice and community engagement principles.
- Must have full COVID 19 vaccines for the protection of clients and staff
