Would you like to play a meaningful role in building the first hospice in North Halton?

North Halton Hospice is a charitable organization committed to making a difference in the lives of individuals and families during their most vulnerable moments. Working in partnership with the community, donors, and government, we are leading an initiative to design, fund, and build a hospice facility that will provide compassionate end-of-life care close to home. As the Hospice evolves, we are seeking diverse volunteers who are eager to contribute their time, expertise, and community connections.

Role Overview

Volunteer Committee Members & Community Representatives support the Hospice by contributing to committee work while acting as ambassadors in the community. They provide insight, strengthen relationships, and support awareness and engagement efforts, while ensuring alignment with the Foundation’s mission and governance practices.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Prepare for and participate in committee meetings
  • Contribute to the development and achievement of committee objectives
  • Act as an ambassador within the community and professional networks
  • Promote awareness of the Hospice’s mission, initiatives, and events
  • Support community engagement efforts and attend events as appropriate
  • Provide community insight and feedback to inform decision-making
  • Adhere to the Foundation’s by-laws, code of conduct, confidentiality, and conflict of interest policies
  • Identify prospective Committee Members and assist in the recruitment process
  • Act in the best long-term interest of the Hospice and the community
  • Attend and participate in fundraising events and the Annual Meeting

Skills and Experiences

  • Strong connection to – and understanding of the North Halton community
  • Experience in community engagement, outreach, governance, or relationship-building
  • Commitment to the Foundation’s mission and long-term objectives
  • Ability to contribute time and participate consistently

What You Bring

  • A genuine interest in community-based palliative healthcare initiatives
  • Passion for hospice care and community service
  • Sound judgment and a collaborative approach
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Professionalism and ability to represent the Hospice externally
  • Successful completion of the Hospice’s volunteer screening process

Time Commitment

  • Approximately 2–4 hours per month
  • Participation in meetings and occasional events
  • One-year term, reviewed annually

Accountability & Authority

  • Accountable to the Committee Chair and aligned with the objectives set by the organization’s Board
  • No formal authority to direct the Board or operations
