We are excited to be recruiting for new Board of Director opportunities at Canadian Mental Health Association Peel Dufferin (CMHA Peel Dufferin)! We are currently seeking applications from individuals who have a passion for putting values into action and making an impactful change in the community.

Who we are

CMHA Peel Dufferin is the leading client-driven, community-based mental health organization serving the Region of Peel and the County of Dufferin. CMHA Peel Dufferin supports people with mental health and addictions needs to be well and achieve their full potential. We do this by providing advocacy and community-based services that are equitable, leading and collaborative. In addition to providing a variety of mental health and addictions-based services, we are committed to community development, mental health awareness and addressing stigmas surrounding mental illness and addictions.

The Role of the Board

The role of the Board is to provide strategic direction, fiduciary oversight, and stewardship for the organization (CMHA Peel Dufferin). CMHA Peel Dufferin Board members are committed to operating in consideration of the advancement of Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, Accessibility (EDIA) and the reduction and elimination of systemic racism and discrimination within mental health and addictions, and across the broader healthcare system. The Board of CMHA Peel Dufferin operates under a results-based governance model, is accountable for achievement of the strategic directions of the organization and for ensuring that its fiduciary “duty of care” is fully exercised.

Recruiting Role and Required Term

  • Board Member
  • Minimum 3 (three) Year term
  • September 2026 to September 2029

Time Commitments

Monthly time commitment (approximately 12 hours per month)

  • Monthly Meetings, 4th Tuesday of the month (2.5 hours per month, 6:30 pm to 9:00 pm)
  • In person meetings held at CMHA Office in Brampton, Ontario; attendees can choose to attend virtually
  • Serve on at least 1 Board Committee, typically virtual (3 hours per month)
  • Review meeting materials (2 to 4 hours per month)

Additional Time Commitments

  • New member onboarding (3 hours)
  • Annual Board Retreat – Friday 5:00 pm to Saturday 12:00 pm; typically, in Peel/Caledon area; January or February of each year
  • Encouraged to attend CMHA Peel Dufferin events, such as staff awards/events and fundraisers
  • Additional training and conferences made available and taken at discretion of the Board Member

Note: the first Board Meeting for new members will be at the Annual Meeting/Board meeting in September 2026.

What you need to join our team


Expertise in one or more of the following areas:

  • Quality and safety oversight
  • Finance (professional designation)
  • Board Governance
  • People and Culture (Human Resources, *EDIA)
  • Health care systems (e.g., family health teams, hospital sector, mental health or addictions)
  • Information technology

General competencies required of Board members include the ability to:

  • understand and interpret the organization’s by-laws, strategic plan and basic financial and operating statements
  • articulate ideas and opinions effectively
  • Strong interpersonal skills with proven ability to approach, listen, build trust, and communicate across diverse cultures, intersectionality and experiences.
  • think strategically with a vision to the future
  • Applying a social justice lens, to identify and mitigate unconscious and systemic bias in planning and decision-making
  • Demonstrate understanding of social determinants of health and impact on vulnerable communities

To ensure geographical representation, we are particularly interested in candidates that live or work in Caledon, Brampton, Mississauga, or Dufferin County.
