The Opportunity

The Re-entry Clinical Social Worker will provide holistic counseling and psychotherapy services to incarcerated and formerly incarcerated individuals participating in DESTA’s Re-entry Program.

Responsibilities

• Conduct psychosocial assessments for individuals preparing for release, in transitional housing, or with a history of criminal justice involvement.
• Support clients with mental health needs using culturally appropriate, trauma-informed approaches.
• Provide crisis intervention, brief therapy, short-term supportive counseling, and psychotherapy.
• Deliver individual and group psychotherapy addressing psychological issues related to incarceration.
• Develop and implement evidence-informed treatment plans to support successful community re-entry.
• Monitor client progress and adjust treatment plans collaboratively with team members and health professionals.
• Complete documentation and reporting promptly; participate in case management and consultation meetings.
• Establish and maintain community partnerships within Little Burgundy/Sud-Ouest and Greater Montreal.
• Travel to designated sites to provide services.
• Provide training and supervision to trainees, interns, and students.
• Assist in policy, protocol, or procedure development as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in social work with registration or eligibility for registration with OTSTCFQ, or psychotherapist’s permit with OPQ.
• Minimum 1 year clinical counseling and/or psychotherapy experience, including cognitive and behavioral therapies.
• Skilled in psychological and risk assessments, individual/group therapy, and crisis intervention.
• Experience with common mental health disorders: Major Depressive Disorder, Generalized Anxiety Disorder, ADHD, PTSD, trauma, grief, etc.
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, problem-solving, organizational, time management, and self-care skills.
• Collaborative team player with ability to supervise trainees and interns.
• Flexible availability including evenings and weekends as required.
• Strong commitment to social justice, community health, and restorative justice values.
• Knowledge of issues impacting incarcerated and formerly incarcerated people.
• Experience working with this population or in correctional settings is an asset.

Additional Assets

• Experience in non-profit environments.
• Understanding of challenges facing Montreal’s Anglophone Black Community and racial equity issues.
• Bilingual in English and French.
