Our mission is to empower the Parkinson's community in British Columbia by providing resources and services to enable self-management, self-reliance, and self-advocacy. Our friendly and knowledgeable staff offer up-to-date information, referrals, educational events, counselling, support groups, and exercise resources. We fund research to advance the understanding and treatment of Parkinson’s, as well as allied health positions across the province.

The right candidate

You are a compassionate and experienced Registered Clinical Social Worker (MSW, RSW) with a deep understanding of chronic illness and a passion for helping individuals and families navigate the complexities of Parkinson’s disease. You bring strong clinical counseling skills, a trauma-informed approach, and familiarity with the BC healthcare system. You thrive in a primarily virtual setting while remaining responsive to in-person client needs.

The position

The Social Worker will report to the Manager of Education and Support Services and play a key role in delivering counseling and healthcare navigation to individuals living with Parkinson’s disease and their carepartners. This is a full-time, primarily remote position based in the Lower Mainland of BC, with occasional in-person sessions and required meeting attendance at our Vancouver office.

Responsibilities of the Registered Clinical Social Worker

You will play a central role in enhancing the emotional, psychosocial, and practical well-being of people with Parkinson’s and their care partners through:

  • Providing short-term counseling using modalities such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, Person-Centred Therapy, and Family Systems Therapy.
  • Using motivational interviewing techniques to enhance health outcomes.
  • Providing psychoeducation by offering individual sessions and support groups to increase understanding of chronic illness and coping strategies.
  • Developing and delivering modality-based therapy groups, such as CBT group therapy.
  • Providing healthcare navigation by supporting clients in navigating BC’s healthcare system
  • Providing linkage to resources such as case managers, financial aid, long-term care, and legal planning
  • Assisting with applications for home supports, disability programs, and caregiver services
  • Liaising with healthcare professionals and advocate for client needs
  • Providing in-person community talks and mental health education sessions which may occasionally require travel within the Lower Mainland and across BC.

What we’re looking for

  • Master’s degree in social work (MSW) and current full registration with the BC College of Social -Workers (BCCSW)
  • Minimum five (5) years of clinical experience, including three (3) in chronic illness or healthcare settings
  • Demonstrated experience with short-term counseling/ therapy and relevant therapeutic modalities
  • Proficiency in delivering services in a virtual (telehealth) environment
  • Strong communication skills and cultural competence
  • Empathy, patience, and a desire to support individuals and families facing Parkinson’s
  • Familiarity with Parkinson’s disease or personal/professional connection considered an asset
  • Group therapy experience preferred
