Position Summary

We’re looking for a data manager to join the ALK Positive Canada (APC) Medical and Scientific Committee. This volunteer role will support this team with a thorough understanding of the medical, scientific and policy presence in Canada. This involves working and interfacing at both federal and provincial levels, paving the way to helping us better connect with patients, caregivers, and the broader community.

You’ll work mainly with the president of ALK Positive Canada, who is also the head of the medical and scientific committee, to bring hard data to lead or support our policy work throughout the country.

Key Responsibilities

  • Formulate, plan, execute and follow through on the data management strategies as decided collaboratively with the board of directors
  • Plan and execute database conception, construction, sharing and onboarding within a narrower context of ALK-positive cancer and a broader overview of all pulmonary oncogene cancers in concordance with the board as represented by the president
  • Research and uncover the data most of concern to our organization, and, where necessary, make this data readable and understandable to our board of directors, and wider audience
  • Engage with appropriate other data professionals in hospitals, universities and public and private entities in our field of activity
  • Participate actively in virtual peer meetings with other similar data professionals across Canada and the US
  • Leverage data to assist in improving reach, storytelling, and community engagement.

Qualifications and Skills

  • A willingness to learn, to listen and to contribute is an absolute must, as is an agreeable personality
  • Strong research and analytic skills are an absolute positive factor
  • Several years’ experience in this area is certainly appreciated
  • A degree in a related subject is a strong plus, though for the right person it may not be necessary
  • Good written communication skills (English; French is an asset)
  • Organized, reliable, and comfortable working collaboratively
  • A genuine interest in supporting a patient-driven community

What You’ll Gain

  • As the first person in this role, it’s yours to make! (upon approval by the board)
  • Experience contributing to a growing national nonprofit
  • A collaborative and supportive team environment
  • ALK Positive Canada has the ambition to be a top player in the lung cancer field in Canada – and you can help us achieve that

Time Commitment

  • Approximately 4–6 hours per month.
  • Participation in regular committee meetings, with additional time for outreach and relationship-building activities as needed.

Why Volunteer With Us?

This is an opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of Canadians affected by ALK-positive cancer. Your expertise and leadership will help APC grow its reach, strengthen its sustainability, and expand support for patients and families nationwide.
