Clinical Counsellor
COSTI REQUIRES CLINICAL COUNSELLOR FOR ITS MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES SERVING BLACK WOMEN
This is a contract position until March 31, 2027 (3 days a week (21 hrs) *42 weeks maximum
Duties:
- Conducts intake, safety assessments and mental health assessments for Black women and their children.
- Administers mental health screens and the movers screen to women who have experienced relationship-based abuse.
- Provides counselling to women and their dependents who have experienced relationship-based abuse.
- Provides crisis intervention to clients experiencing a mental health or emotional crisis or at risk for abuse.
- Provides Trauma Informed Cognitive Behavioral Treatment to clients.
- Provides short-term individual, couples and family counselling to clients experiencing personal, emotional, mental health or addiction issues.
- Develops and implements culturally tailored safety plan and intervention plan.
- Assist clients to gain insight, define goals, and plan action to achieve effective personal, social, educational, and vocational development and adjustment.
- Work closely with general and housing counsellors to support case plan for all safety and settlement needs.
- Makes referrals to appropriate health/mental health and violence against women agencies.
- Liaises with other organizations and service providers.
- Documents services and activities in COSTI’s database system and prepares necessary reports.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Social Work and at least 2 years of counselling experience working with black women who have experienced intimate partner abuse.
- Knowledge of mental health, violence against women, settlement issues and local and community resources for women who have experienced relationship-based abuse.
- Demonstrated ability in crisis de-escalation skills applied in a team setting
- Demonstrated ability to work with individuals who have experienced conflict trauma and violence, relationship-based abuse.
- Knowledge of mental health disorders, treatments and psychosocial interventions.
- Knowledge of the adult/children’s mental health system.
- Demonstrated counselling skills
- Knowledge of the violence against women sector.
- Works from an anti-oppression, anti-black racist and anti-racist and feminist framework.
- Knowledge of Trauma theory and recovery.
- Knowledge of trauma-informed practice.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Sensitive to and aware of the social problems facing black women, refugees and immigrants.
- Must have access to a vehicle.
- Experience in case planning
- Sound culturally competent clinical skills and knowledge of the diversity in the Black Community.
- Excellent presentation skills.
- Must identify as a Black woman.
- Must have valid vulnerable sector screening
- Flexibility to work morning or evening hours

$42,019 to $44,053 per annum + Benefits
