PQWCHC is seeking a Childminder to work on a casual basis to primarily provide childcare support to families participating in the Parkdale Parents Primary Prevention Project (5Ps). The Childminder will provide short-term childcare, and information and activities which promote healthy child development.
Key responsibilities:
- Provide childcare support to high need families, offering parent relief through short-term childcare.
- Supervise children in their care and encourage positive interactions with other children and adults.
- Participate in formal and informal parent-child stimulation programs responsive to the needs of the community.
- Carry out a variety of activities to promote optimal development of young children from the ages of 0 - 6 years.
- Ensure childcare room registration forms are filled out and that parents/caregivers sign all children in and out of the room.
- Keep the childcare room safe and clean; tidy the space after each session; participate in more thorough cleaning of contents when applicable.
- Help to monitor the overall safety of the childcare room by being alert to possible risks of injury and potential dangers and crises.
- Maintain the Childcare Room Registration binder.
- Facilitate and assist with snack preparation, as needed.
- Assist with setup and cleanup of the program room.
- Other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Childminding Training Certificate and/or significant experience working with young children aged 0 - 6 years.
- Knowledge of child development and parenting issues and familiarity with issues facing families struggling with low incomes, unemployment, isolation, settlement issues and family violence.
- Familiarity with the community of Parkdale/High Park and the community resources available to families.
- Experience working in a non-profit or community health centre environment is considered an asset.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to function both as a team player and independently.
- Experience working in a feminist, anti-oppression framework.
- Fluency in a language relevant to the Parkdale community, in addition to English is a definite asset.
- Must be available to work flexible shifts throughout the week.
- Current First AID and CPR certification is an asset.
- Candidates for this position must complete a vulnerable sector check.
Salary: $19.00 per hour
