Position Title: Child and Youth Worker

Location: Smiths Falls, Ontario

Employment Status: Full-Time, 18-Month Contract

Reports To: Director of Clinical Operation

Salary Range: $59,696.00 – $66,832.36

Position Summary

The Child and Youth Worker is responsible for providing direct support and intervention services to children, youth, and their families. This role focuses on enhancing life skills, social functioning, and emotional well-being through individualized and group-based programming in home, school, and community settings. This position supports the Parents First program, a program that provides support to families at risk of further involvement within the child welfare program. Services are provided countywide.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and evaluate programs that promote client life skills, self-help abilities, and socialization
  • Provide education, guidance, and support to parents, caregivers, teachers, and community members regarding effective child management strategies
  • Support and encourage children’s active participation in school and community activities
  • May facilitate therapeutic and educational group sessions
  • May deliver direct services to children in out-of-home placements and support reintegration efforts
  • Collaborate with specialized service providers and facilitate appropriate client referrals
  • Provide follow-up services based on client needs and treatment plans
  • Deliver services in home, school, and community settings, including scheduled appointments and crisis response
  • Attend case conferences with internal and external community partners
  • Participate in advocacy initiatives and coordination committees addressing systemic issues affecting children and youth
  • Contribute to approved community education and awareness activities

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Diploma in Child and Youth Work
  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience working with children in a relevant setting

Knowledge and Skills

  • Strong knowledge of child development and issues including sexual abuse, family violence, and high-risk family dynamics
  • Demonstrated proficiency in behavioral management techniques
  • Working knowledge of Windows-based environments and Microsoft Word
  • Experience using EMHware, Microsoft Office Suite, and other relevant client management databases

Interpersonal Skills

  • Strong conflict resolution, crisis intervention, and advocacy skills
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse families and within a multidisciplinary team environment

Additional Requirements

  • Valid Ontario Driver’s License and access to a reliable vehicle
  • Availability of working evenings and occasional weekends
  • Work schedule includes four (4) days with Parents First and one (1) day with FRT
