Empowered Futures is dedicated to helping young adults build confidence, emotional intelligence, and long‑term capability through mentorship, empowerment, and supportive community programming. We are seeking a Chief of Marketing & Communications to lead the organization’s marketing vision, strengthen brand cohesion, and oversee all communications and creative functions at the executive level.

Position Summary

The Chief of Marketing & Communications Officer is a senior executive volunteer role responsible for shaping and leading Empowered Futures’ marketing, branding, and communications strategy. This role oversees all marketing‑related functions, guides cross‑team alignment, and ensures cohesive messaging across the organization. The Chief provides strategic leadership to the Director of Marketing & Communications and collaborates closely with the CEO.

  1. Executive marketing leadership
  • Provide strategic leadership for all marketing and communications activities across the organization.
  • Develop and oversee an integrated marketing and communications strategy that strengthens Empowered Futures’ brand, visibility, and reputation.
  • Guide the Director of Marketing & Communications in aligning subcommittees (Marketing & Communications, Events, International Affairs, Design Hub) with the broader strategic vision.
  • Ensure that all marketing and communications activities reflect the organization’s mission, values, and long‑term direction.

2. Brand, messaging & content strategy

  • Define and maintain core brand guidelines, messaging frameworks, and tone of voice for the organization.
  • Oversee the development of key narratives, campaigns, and content that communicate Empowered Futures’ impact to youth, partners, and supporters.
  • Ensure consistency of messaging and visual identity across platforms, materials, and initiatives.
  • Support the development of storytelling approaches that highlight youth empowerment, mental wellness, and community impact.

3. Oversight of marketing operations

  • Provide leadership and direction to the Director of Marketing & Communications and related subcommittee Leads.
  • Set high‑level priorities, guardrails, and expectations for marketing initiatives, while empowering teams to execute.
  • Ensure marketing plans are aligned with organizational goals, capacity, and cross‑functional needs (programs, outreach, partnerships, fundraising).
    Establish clear decision‑making pathways and escalation points for marketing‑related issues.

4. Cross‑functional executive collaboration

  • Collaborate with the CEO and other Chiefs to integrate marketing strategy into organizational planning and major initiatives.
  • Align marketing efforts with program launches, events, fundraising campaigns, outreach activities, and partnerships.
  • Provide strategic input on how marketing can support youth engagement, community presence, and stakeholder relationships.
  • Work with the CEO on initiatives that require organizational representation at the governance or Board‑facing level.

5. External representation & reputation management

  • Represent Empowered Futures in high‑level marketing and communications contexts, including speaking engagements, strategic meetings, and sector forums.
  • Oversee public statements, key announcements, and reputation‑sensitive communications.
  • Ensure that communications reflect ethical standards, cultural sensitivity, and organizational integrity.

6. Reporting, evaluation & continuous improvement

  • Oversee marketing and communications reporting, including key performance indicators, campaign outcomes, and engagement metrics.
  • Provide regular strategic updates and recommendations to the CEO.
  • Promote a culture of learning, innovation, and continuous improvement within the marketing and communications function.
  • Support the CEO in preparing marketing‑related insights for the Chairwoman and Board when required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Business, Public Relations, or a related field (advanced degree preferred).
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in marketing, communications, or brand leadership, including senior or executive‑level roles.
  • Demonstrated experience leading teams and overseeing integrated marketing or communications strategies.
  • Strong strategic thinking, brand management, and storytelling skills.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and relationship‑building abilities.
  • Comfortable working in a remote, volunteer‑driven environment with cross‑functional collaboration.

Preferred

  • Experience in nonprofit, social impact, or mission‑driven organizations.
  • Familiarity with digital marketing, social media strategy, and multi‑channel campaign management.
  • Understanding of nonprofit governance, reputation management, and stakeholder communications.

Position details

This is a part‑time, unpaid executive role with a recommended commitment of 8–10 hours per week.
