Breakthrough T1D Canada is at a pivotal moment as we advance an ambitious strategy to accelerate cures and improve the lives of those living with type 1 diabetes. Breakthrough T1D is seeking a Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) to join our Senior Leadership Team. As we mobilize and unite the T1D community, the Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) will play a central role in shaping how we deliver on that strategy, aligning people, culture, governance, and community engagement to drive impact at a national scale. This is a unique opportunity for a purpose-driven executive to lead at an enterprise level and help build a high-performing, values-led organization positioned for the future.

As a trusted advisor to the President & CEO, the CHRO will play a critical role in aligning talent, governance and community engagement to enable organizational excellence. You will help foster a high-performing, values-driven culture and further mobilize a passionate national community united in driving progress for those affected by T1D.

As the CHRO, your primary accountabilities would be to:

Organizational Leadership & Strategy:

· Ensure alignment of people, governance and community engagement strategies with organizational priorities and outcomes.

· Act as a trusted advisor and thought partner to the SLT and Senior Management Team, providing expert counsel on organizational design, leadership effectiveness, talent management and change management.

People & Culture

· Lead the development and execution of a comprehensive, nationwide people and culture strategy aligned with Breakthrough T1D’s mission, values, and strategic priorities.

· Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics to evaluate the effectiveness and impact of Human Resources and Volunteer & Community Engagement programs and initiatives.

Organization Integration & Performance

· Ensure alignment and integration across human resources, governance, and community engagement to create a cohesive system that strengthens performance and mission impact.

· Provide regular insights and reporting to SLT and the Board on culture, talent, governance, and community engagement.

· Foster a culture of accountability, continuous learning, inclusion and high performance.

Leadership & Team Development

· Provide visionary leadership to the Human Resources and Volunteer & Community Engagement teams, building capability and a high performing, engaged environment.

· Strengthen leadership alignment by identifying opportunities and advancing approaches that enhance clarity of strategy, shared accountability and effective collaboration across the SLT and broader leadership group.

Our ideal candidate will have the following experience:

· Undergraduate degree required, advanced degree and/or CHRL designation preferred combined with a minimum of 15 years of progressive human resources leadership experience, including significant experience at the executive level within a complex, multi-location or matrixed organization or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

· Demonstrated success leading organization wide people strategies, with strong experience in organizational transformation, talent management, and culture development.

· Experience in volunteer engagement strategy and community-based environments is considered a strong asset.

· Proven ability to operate effectively at both strategic and operational levels, balancing long-term vision with execution excellence.

· Experience leading through transformation or change

· Strong connector across teams and stakeholders

· Values-driven, high accountability leadership

· Strong business acumen and the ability to influence and partner with senior leaders.

· Exceptional interpersonal and relationship building skills, with the ability to engage and influence a wide range of stakeholders.

· Recognized as a thought leader with current knowledge of leading practices in employee experience, organizational effectiveness, and culture.

· Bilingualism (English/French) is definitely an asset.

The salary range for this role is anticipated to be $175,000 - $195,000, commensurate with skills and experience level of the selected candidate.
