
Chief Financial Officer (CFO)
Established in 1891, Ashbury College is a leading not-for profit independent day and boarding school for students in Grades 4 to 12 located in Canada’s capital on the traditional, unceded territory of the Anishinàbe Algonquin Nation. Due to the upcoming retirement of our incumbent CFO, Ashbury College is currently seeking a Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to provide strategic leadership, oversight and management of the full range of financial affairs of the school. This will include leading and preparing the annual school budget, management of all accounting functions and policies, financial and audit reporting, cash, debt and risk management, and procedures and controls. While supporting a broad range of clients across the College, the CFO will proactively manage the college’s financial well-being and transparent reporting of its activities, fiscal standing and inter-organization relationships. The role will champion and support a healthy and positive school culture, as well as consult and communicate with key stakeholders including the Board of Governors, and various select Committees of the Board of Governors and the Foundation Board on the financial and accounting health of Ashbury. Reporting to the Head of School in this critical role, you will be a key member of and partner with the College’s executive leadership team, faculty and staff in meeting Ashbury’s strategic objectives and supporting college initiatives at all times.
The successful candidate will have excelled in a diverse and complex organization with an accomplished track record in all aspects of financial management and leadership. They will possess exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, organizational effectiveness, and proactive leadership in upholding standards and expectations within the College. A collaborative and hands-on leader, the CFO will oversee a broad Finance and Investment portfolio and will be the financial standard bearer for service. The ability to accomplish goals through people and committees is an essential skill. As a comfortable champion and spokesperson for all financial dimensions of the College, you will embody and foster our values through ethical behaviour, accountability, performance metrics and a continuous improvement mindset. We require a degree in finance, accounting, business or related discipline, combined with an accounting designation (CPA). A minimum of 5-7 years experience as a well-rounded senior financial leader responsible for building, coaching and developing a high performing dedicated team is desired, ideally in a non-profit organization or educational institution role.
