The Multicultural Association of the Greater Moncton Area (MAGMA) is a leading settlement agency committed to supporting newcomers as they integrate and thrive in our community. With a team of over 125 staff and an annual budget of $9 million, MAGMA delivers high-quality settlement services that foster inclusion, opportunity, and belonging—helping immigrants build successful lives in the Greater Moncton Area.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) provides visionary leadership and holds ultimate responsibility for the agency’s success. They foster a welcoming, inclusive, and equitable organizational culture while overseeing strategic direction, administration, program delivery, and operational effectiveness.
As MAGMA’s primary ambassador, the CEO represents the organization to local, provincial, and federal government partners, as well as community stakeholders—cultivating strategic relationships and advocating for policies and funding that support newcomer settlement.
In their role as chief executive, the CEO works closely with the Board of Directors on governance, financial planning, and organizational accountability, and reports directly to the Board.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategic Leadership
- Develop and implement the agency’s multi-year strategic plan in collaboration with the Board and senior team.
- Translate the organization’s vision and mission into actionable goals across programs and operations.
- Foster innovation and continuous improvement to ensure services remain effective and responsive.
Stakeholder Engagement & Government Relations
- Serve as the primary representative and spokesperson to government bodies (federal, provincial, and municipal), funders, media, and community partners.
- Build and sustain strategic alliances and networks that raise the agency’s visibility and influence.
- Advocate for supportive settlement policies and adequate funding to advance newcomer integration.
Operational Oversight
- Oversee day-to-day operations and program management, ensuring services and initiatives are delivered on time, on budget, and in compliance with funder agreements and regulatory standards.
- Monitor and evaluate program outcomes to ensure high-quality, evidence-informed results for clients.
Financial Management
- Lead the annual budgeting process and ongoing financial planning to ensure fiscal sustainability.
- Establish sound financial controls and reporting systems, and regularly report financial status to the Board.
- Pursue diversified funding and revenue opportunities (grants, donors, fee-for-service, etc.) to strengthen the organization’s financial base.
Human Resources Leadership
- Provide strong leadership and support to senior management and staff.
- Cultivate a positive, inclusive, high-performance workplace culture guided by equity and respect.
- Ensure fair and transparent HR practices in recruitment, performance management, and professional development.
- Mentor staff to build capacity and support career growth.
Community & Partnership Development
- Forge partnerships with local organizations, employers, educational institutions, and other community stakeholders.
- Collaborate with sector agencies and newcomers’ groups to align services with community needs and share best practices.
- Promote the agency’s role in the community by attending events, forums, and coalitions that advance immigrant settlement.
Risk Management & Compliance
- Ensure the organization complies with all legal, regulatory, and contractual obligations.
- Oversee risk management strategies to safeguard the agency’s reputation, assets, and operations.
- Work with senior leaders to identify, assess, and mitigate organizational risks, including financial, operational, reputational, and cybersecurity risks.
- Ensure policies and procedures support ethical conduct, privacy protection, and accountability.
Technology Oversight
- Provide strategic oversight of the agency’s technology infrastructure and digital transformation initiatives, in collaboration with the Technology Director.
- Ensure systems support efficient service delivery, data security, and innovation.
- Champion the use of technology to improve client outcomes and organizational effectiveness.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Leadership Background:
- 5–8 years of senior leadership experience in the non-profit or public sector
- Experience in immigration, settlement, social services, or related fields preferred.
Education:
- Post-secondary degree in a relevant field (e.g., business administration, public administration, social sciences).
- Master’s degree or professional designation is an asset.
Financial and Administrative Skills:
- Proven ability to manage multi-million-dollar budgets and funding proposals.
- Skilled in financial oversight, policy development, and data-informed decision-making.
Human Resources Management:
- Experience overseeing HR functions, including recruitment, performance management, and inclusive workplace practices.
- Strong team building and staff development skills.
Government Relations:
- Demonstrated success in building relationships with municipal, provincial, and federal government partners.
- Experience in advocacy or policy development is highly valued.
Board Governance:
- Familiarity with non-profit governance and experience reporting to a Board of Directors.
Sector Knowledge:
- Understanding of Canada’s immigration and refugee systems, settlement service models, and related government programs (e.g., IRCC grants).
- Awareness of best practices in newcomer integration.
Bilingualism:
- Fluency in English is required; proficiency in French is a strong asset.
