YWCA Toronto transforms lives. As the city’s largest multi-service women’s organization, YWCA helps women and gender diverse people escape violence, move out of poverty and access safe, affordable housing.
YWCA Toronto is a trailblazing organization dedicated to driving societal transformation by empowering women, girls, and gender diverse people through a feminist, intersectional, and anti-oppressive lens. Rooted in principles of gender and racial equity and committed to poverty reduction, the organization is a trusted collaborator in delivering life-changing programs in shelter and housing, employment and training, leadership development, and advocacy. Each year, through a staff of over 650 and budget of $49 million, YWCA Toronto serves nearly 13,000 individuals from all walks of life, including diverse races, religions, classes, ages, sexual orientations, gender identities, abilities, and immigration statuses. It is within this dynamic environment that YWCA Toronto is seeking a bold, values-driven leader as its next CEO.
At the helm of this impactful organization, the CEO of YWCA Toronto serves as its chief steward, champion, and visionary leader. Embodying the values of equity, inclusion, and social justice—and informed by lived experience—the CEO leads with empathy, integrity, and bold conviction. The CEO will work collaboratively with the Board of Directors and the senior leadership team to shape the organizational vision, ensure strong governance, and drive long-term success. The CEO will inspire staff, supporters, and community partners and play a critical role in sustaining and growing YWCA Toronto’s transformative work on behalf of the women, girls, and gender-diverse individuals it serves.
As a strategic and operational leader, the CEO will ensure the long-term sustainability and impact of YWCA Toronto by strengthening its financial health, modernizing systems and structures, ensuring the organization is living its values and empowering leaders through a culture of accountability and collaboration. The CEO will cultivate meaningful partnerships across sectors—including donors, government funders, and community partners—to enhance the organization’s programs and services, influence, visibility, and capacity for change. Through balanced, decisive, and evidence-based leadership, the CEO will navigate a critical period of transition while honouring the organization’s legacy, centring the voices and experiences of participants and preparing it for a resilient and impactful future.
The ideal candidate is a passionate and visionary leader who is deeply committed to intersectional feminism, equity, diversity, inclusion, and social justice. Possessing strong financial and fundraising acumen, the ideal candidate is a champion of innovation who will lead structural, cultural, and digital transformation to enhance the organization’s overall effectiveness. With proven leadership in the non-profit sector, particularly within multi-service, unionized social service organizations, you will bring strong advocacy skills and a respected public presence. Your communication style would be described as empathetic, transparent, and inspiring, and you are motivated to foster a culture of trust, collaboration, and accountability both within the organization and in the broader community.
