The Out of the Cold Meal Program at Saint Luke’s U.C. is the largest interfaith volunteer food initiative in the history of the City, serving 800 hot meals and 400 bagged lunches a week.

The Meal Program is seeking a part-time Cook to work once a week on Tuesdays, for 6 to 8 hours shifts, with the potential for a second day on Mondays. The successful candidate will report to the Program Coordinator.

Duties and responsibilities include:

• Cooking independently and leading volunteers in the cooking process to create 200+ nutritious and tasty meat and vegetarian meals.
• Creating recipes and instructions for the preparation of meals.
• Creating meals on short notice with donated food.
• Maintaining safety and sanitation standards in accordance with the guidelines set by Public Health for the City of Toronto, and the Meal Program’s procedures.
• You will support a workplace that embraces diversity and encourages teamwork.

Job Requirements:

• The successful candidate will have completion of an accredited program from a recognized institution, combined with at least 3 year of experience in quantity food preparation, preferably in a community setting.
• A valid food handler’s certificate is required. The candidate will have
  effective verbal, interpersonal, and organization skills.
• The ability to work independently with little direct supervision, as well as lead volunteers.
• You must be able to cope with the physical demands of the job.
• You have the ability to work with and support a diverse group of volunteers, staff and peers, who are deeply valued and committed to fighting food insecurity in the downtown east and beyond.

Please note that the starting time for work day may vary from week to week according to volunteer scheduling.

Remuneration: $30 - $35 an hour.
