hEr VOLUTION is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing innovative STEM education and opportunities to underserved youth, with a focus on empowering girls and young women. Our mission is to bridge the gap in STEM by fostering inclusivity, accessibility, and long-term career success for the next generation of leaders.
Position Overview:
We are seeking an experienced and visionary Chair of the Board to lead our Board of Directors in advancing hEr VOLUTION’s mission. The Chair will play a pivotal role in governance, strategic leadership, and organizational sustainability. This is a volunteer position requiring a commitment to drive policy development, board management, and succession planning.
Key Responsibilities:

Governance & Policy Development:

Draft, refine, and implement board policies, guidelines, and governance frameworks.

Ensure compliance with nonprofit best practices and legal requirements.

Board Leadership & Management:

Lead board meetings, set agendas, and ensure productive discussions.

Work closely with the Executive Director and board members to align organizational strategy with governance.

Foster a collaborative and inclusive board culture.

Succession & Sustainability Planning:

Develop processes and systems to ensure board and leadership succession.

Support recruitment, onboarding, and mentorship of new board members.

Communication & Stakeholder Engagement:

Serve as a key liaison between the board, staff, and external stakeholders.

Represent hEr VOLUTION at key events and in strategic partnerships when needed.

Meeting & Reporting Oversight:
-
Ensure board materials, reports, and financial documents are prepared and reviewed in advance of meetings.

Monitor follow-ups and action items to maintain accountability.

Ideal Candidate Profile:
-
Proven leadership experience in governance, preferably in nonprofit or mission-driven organizations.

Strong understanding of board development, policy creation, and strategic planning.

Excellent communication, facilitation, and interpersonal skills.

Ability to manage diverse perspectives and foster consensus.
-
Passion for STEM education, equity, and youth empowerment.

Previous board experience (preferably as Chair, Vice-Chair, or in a governance role).
Commitment & Term:

This is a volunteer role with an estimated time commitment of 10-15 hours per month, including board meetings (10 meetings per year).

The initial term is 2 years, with potential for renewal.
