
Chair of the Board of Directors (Volunteer Position)
The Kanata Food Cupboard Board of Directors is a dedicated team of volunteer leaders from both nonprofit and for-profit sectors who are deeply committed to our mission. We strive to alleviate food insecurity in the Kanata community. Chairing our Board is an extraordinary opportunity for an individual who is passionate about making a difference.
Job Description
The KFC is currently recruiting a leader to serve as our Chair of the Board.
Key Responsibilities:
- In fulfillment of fiduciary responsibilities, the volunteer Board is expected to establish policies, to make significant and strategic decisions, and to oversee the organization's activity. We are seeking an experienced Chair who can lead these efforts.
- Board members serve a term of 2 years.
- Members are expected to attend 9-12 board meetings per year. The Chair will lead these meetings, including pre-meeting preparation and co-ordinating post-meeting action items.
- The Chair will take a lead role in ensuring implementation of the KFC’s Strategic Plan
- The Chair will take the lead (along with the participation of other Board members) in representing KFC in the community, including fundraising and community events, media appearances, etc. The Chair should essentially act as an ambassador for the organization in bringing awareness to, and fulfilling, its mission.
- The Chair will also take the lead (working with the KFC HR committee) on managing and supporting the organization’s staff (currently three full-time and one part-time staff).
- The Chair will support a Board and organization culture that is collaborative, respectful, inclusive and grounded in trust.
Desired Skills and Expertise
- The ideal candidate will have Chair or other leadership experience with a non-profit as well as a track record of supporting charitable causes, passion for the mission, and leadership skills to help lead the Board’s mandate. Formal board training is an asset as well.
- The ideal candidate will be comfortable taking a leadership role in representing the KFC in the local community, as well as the broader City of Ottawa and with partner and peer organizations in the area of food insecurity
