Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Canadian Humanitarian Grant Writer to lead and support grant development efforts targeting Canadian institutional funders, foundations, and humanitarian funding programs.
This role is critical to expanding Samawada’s funding base and securing grants to support water infrastructure, sustainability initiatives, and community-based programs.
This is an ideal opportunity for a grant professional who wants to apply their expertise to meaningful international humanitarian impact while working with a growing, mission-driven organization.
What You Will Do
Research and identify relevant Canadian funding opportunities (government, foundations, institutional donors).
Lead the development and submission of high-quality grant proposals.
Write compelling concept notes, letters of inquiry (LOIs), and full grant applications.
Align proposals with funder priorities, guidelines, and evaluation criteria.
Collaborate with program teams to gather project data, budgets, and impact metrics.
Develop clear logical frameworks, theories of change, and measurable outcomes.
Prepare detailed grant budgets in coordination with finance and program staff.
Track deadlines, submission schedules, and reporting requirements.
Support donor reporting and impact documentation when required.
Maintain a grant calendar and funding pipeline.
What We Are Looking For
Proven experience writing successful Canadian humanitarian or development grants.
Strong knowledge of Canadian funding bodies (e.g., Global Affairs Canada, foundations, institutional donors).
Demonstrated success securing grants for nonprofit or international development organizations.
Excellent proposal writing, editing, and storytelling skills.
Experience developing budgets and logical frameworks.
Strong research, analytical, and organizational skills.
Ability to work independently in a fully remote environment.
Commitment to ethical storytelling and impact transparency.
Nice to Have
Experience with water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) programming.
Familiarity with Global Affairs Canada proposal processes.
Experience working with African or international development organizations.
Knowledge of monitoring and evaluation frameworks.
Bilingual (English/French) skills are an asset.
