Business Director
Restorative Justice Housing Ontario (RJHO) provides safe, affordable, and supportive transitional housing for individuals recently released from prison. Our mission is to break the cycle of incarceration and homelessness through utilizing the values of restorative justice, dignity, and reintegration.
Position Overview
RJHO is seeking a dynamic, mission-aligned Business Director to lead and support the organization’s growth. This multi-faceted role will focus 50% on fundraising and donor relations, 25% on communications and public engagement, and 25% on administrative and operational support. The ideal candidate is highly organized, self-motivated, and passionate about social justice and housing equity.
Key Responsibilities
1. Fundraising & Development (50%)
- Develop and implement annual fundraising plans and strategies.
- Work with Fundraising chair to identify potential large foundation/fund donors.
- Research and write grant applications and funding proposals.
- Cultivate and steward relationships with donors, funders, and community partners.
- Manage donor database, track giving history, and generate fundraising reports.
- Coordinate fundraising events, campaigns, and sponsorship efforts.
- Prepare impact reports and donor communications.
2. Communications & Outreach (25%)
- Lead RJHO’s communication strategy across digital and print platforms.
- Create content for newsletters, social media, website, and press releases.
- Ensure consistent branding and messaging aligned with RJHO’s mission.
- Act as liaison with community partners and media, where appropriate.
- Support advocacy and awareness-building campaigns.
3. Administration & Operations (25%)
- Provide executive administrative support to the Board and leadership team.
- Collaborate on shared projects with the Program Director, who has responsibility for supervision of the rental houses, and dealings with occupants and property owners
- Maintain and organize a central digital repository of internal records, reports, and online filing systems.
- Supervise administrative assistant and provide guidance.
- Support Treasurer in accounting and finance functions, including preparation of financial statements, tax filings, cash/investment management and budgets/cashflow forecasts.
- Supervise bookkeeper and manage the maintenance of QuickBooks Online.
- Coordinate scheduling, meeting minutes, and correspondence.
- Assist in onboarding staff, volunteers, or service providers.
Qualifications
- Minimum 5-10 years’ experience in non-profit fundraising, development, or business management.
- Proven success securing grants and donor support.
- Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and donor/CRM platforms (e.g., Canada Helps, Mailchimp).
- Accounting background required with 3-5 years’ experience.
- Highly organized with strong project management and multitasking skills.
- Experience working with marginalized or justice-involved communities is an asset.
- Passion for RJHO’s mission and values.
- Located in southern Ontario, preferably GTA.
Working Conditions
- Flexible schedule and remote work environment.
- Occasional evening/weekend work for events or deadlines.
- Position is part-time (20-25 hours /week).
