Elementary School Music Teacher
POSITION SUMMARY
Position Type: Part-time
Salary: Based on school salary grid
The Brass Music Teacher will deliver an engaging and developmentally appropriate music program, building on Bannockburn’s current curriculum and in harmony with the Montessori philosophy. We are looking for a creative, enthusiastic educator who can foster music literacy, organize performances, and instill a lifelong love of music.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Teach brass to students in Grades 4 to 6
- Teach recorder and ukulele to students in Grades 4 to 6
- Teach general music, including theory and percussion, to students in Grades 1 to 6
- Plan and organize special music events throughout the school year
- Create a warm, welcoming classroom environment that supports student growth and curiosity
- Deliver music instruction that inspires and challenges students to reach their full potential
- Support the social, emotional, and academic development of students
- Build positive, collaborative relationships with teachers, staff, and parents
- Participate actively in staff, faculty, and department meetings to plan, review, and enrich student learning
- Be an engaged and positive member of the school community, including attending school events
QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, AND ATTRIBUTES
- Montessori teaching diploma or Ontario Teaching Certificate preferred
- Bachelor of Music
- Bachelor of Education is an asset
- Proficiency on brass instruments
- Ability to arrange music for beginner brass students
- Knowledge and/or certification in the Orff approach preferred
- Piano proficiency at RCM Grade 8 or higher preferred
- Knowledge of Dalcroze and Kodály methodologies is an asset
- Ability to teach ukulele is an asset
- Professional, reliable, and collaborative work ethic
- Passion for teaching and working with children
- Commitment to building strong, supportive student-teacher relationships
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Effective classroom management skills
- Current Standard First Aid/CPR-C certification (or willingness to obtain prior to starting)
- Current Vulnerable Sector Police Record Check (or willingness to obtain prior to starting)
