Position: Bookkeeper

Reports to: Director Admin & Finance

Term: 1 Part-Time (21 hrs/week)

Start Date: Asap

Location: 27 Tapscott Road, Unit 1, Scarborough, ON M1B 4Y7

Position Summary

As a member of the multi-disciplinary team, the Bookkeeper supports the Finance team in maintaining accurate and timely financial records and ensuring compliance with accounting standards and internal policies. The Bookkeeper will work within an anti-racist/anti-oppression framework. The ideal candidate has experience in non-profit accounting, is highly organized, and thrives in a mission-driven environment. This role is essential in ensuring sound financial management, regulatory compliance, and accurate reporting to support the Centre’s operations and community impact.

The Bookkeeper works closely with the Accountant and Financial Analyst and the Payroll and Finance Administrator

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and update general ledger accounts, ensuring accuracy and completeness
  • Process accounts payable and accounts receivable, including invoice preparation and vendor payments
  • Support the annual budgeting process and monitor actual expenditures against budget
  • Manage fund accounting and track restricted/unrestricted funding in compliance with grant and funding agreements
  • Assist in the preparation of funder reports, financial submissions, and grant applications
  • Assist in the reconciliation bank statements, credit card accounts, and other financial records monthly
  • Assist in preparing financial reports, grant tracking, and funder reporting as required
  • Prepare and file HST/GST and other statutory filings as applicable
  • Ensure proper documentation and filing of financial records
  • Support the annual audit process, including preparation of schedules and responding to auditor requests
  • Monitor budgets and expenditures in collaboration with Directors and Managers of programs and services
  • Participate in the development, maintenance and review of financial policies, procedures, and internal controls
  • Identify and implement improvements to accounting processes and systems
  • Perform other finance and administrative duties as needed

Administrative Duties

  • Share administrative tasks with other centre staff. These may include compiling statistical data, and updating records
  • Participate in team meetings

Accountability

  • This position reports to the Director of Admin & Finance
  • The Bookkeeper is accountable to meet the requirements of any accountability agreement between Ontario Health and TAIBU CHC.

Qualifications

Academic and Professional

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA designation (or working towards) strongly preferred
  • Minimum 3–5 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in the non-profit or healthcare sector
  • Strong knowledge of Canadian GAAP for not-for-profit organizations
  • Proficient in accounting software Sage and Microsoft Excel
  • Experience with fund accounting and government/funder reporting
