- Monitor monthly/quarterly financial statements and report on variances to the Board.
- Advise on long-term financial planning, investment strategies, and reserve funds.
2. Risk Management & Compliance
- Ensure appropriate internal controls and financial policies are in place and followed.
- Oversee the annual audit process and the filing of tax returns (e.g., Form 990).
- Ensure the organization complies with global financial regulations regarding cross-border giving.
3. Committee Leadership
- Serve as the Chair of the Finance Committee.
- Coordinate with the Audit and Investment committees (if applicable).
- Translate complex financial data into "plain English" for non-financial Board members
Candidate Profile
We are seeking a "Strategic Guardian" who possesses:
- Financial Expertise: Professional background in finance, accounting, or executive management (CPA, CFA, or MBA preferred).
- Non-Profit Fluency: Familiarity with fund accounting, restricted vs. unrestricted grants, and philanthropic compliance.
- Integrity: An unimpeachable standard of ethics and transparency.
- Analytical Clarity: The ability to spot trends in data and alert the Board to potential risks before they become crises.
Commitment & Term
- Term: Three-year term, renewable once.
- Time Commitment: Approximately 8–12 hours per month. This peaks during budget season and the annual audit.
Note: This is a volunteer position. However, all travel and business expenses related to the role will be fully reimbursed.
