Board Treasurer

The Hope in Shadows Society (Megaphone) is seeking a Board Treasurer to help steward the financial health of our organization. This is a volunteer role on our governance Board of Directors, as the day-to-day financial management is overseen by the Executive Director. This role is ideal for a professional who wants to put their financial expertise to work in service of a grassroots, community-driven organization.

Key Responsibilities

• Support the Executive Director on financial planning and decision-making
• Review and present financial statements and budgets at board meetings and the AGM
• Ensure the organization maintains appropriate financial controls and complies with relevant reporting requirements
• Liaise with the external bookkeeper or accountant, as needed

Skills & Qualifications

• Background in accounting, financial management, or a related field (CPA designation an asset but not required), or equivalent experience (past Treasurer role)
• Ability to communicate financial information clearly to a non-financial audience
• Experience with charity financial reporting or governance is an asset
• Commitment to Megaphone's mission of amplifying marginalized voices and creating work opportunities for people experiencing poverty or homelessness

Board Responsibilities:

1. Serve a minimum 2-year term
2. Attend a minimum of five board meetings per year in-person at 312 Main Street
3. Chair the Finance & Fundraising Committee
4. Commit 5–10 hours per month to board duties
5. Support fundraising initiatives, including in-person events
