Key Responsibilities

The Treasurer plays a key leadership role in stewarding Blooming Boulevards’ financial health and long-term sustainability. This includes:

• Financial stewardship reporting: Oversee financial statements; present clear, decision-useful financials to the Board.
• Audit compliance: Liaise with external auditors; ensure controls, funder compliance, CRA/ONCA obligations, and policies are in place and effective
• Risk Management: Monitor cash flow, reserves, and capital planning; recommend risk mitigation policies appropriate for NFPs.
• Committee leadership: Chair the Finance Committee; collaborate with the Executive Director and finance staff (if applicable); support Board education on financial literacy.
• Governance: Contribute to Board strategy, policy development, and ethical, transparent decision-making.

Preferred Qualifications:

• CPA (CA/CMA/CGA) or international equivalent (required).
• Experience in nonprofit or public sector financial management
• Familiarity with ASNPO, funder reporting, restricted contributions, grants, and audits.
• Strong communication skills and collaborative approach
• Board/governance or Finance/Audit Committee experience (NFP preferred).
• Ability to work with a bookkeeper, accountant, and auditor.
• Proficient skills using Quickbooks.

Commitment:

• Blooming Boulevards membership
• 3-year term (renewable)
• Monthly board meetings and regular Finance Committee meetings
• Estimated 8-10 hours/month
• Mississauga area residency: board meetings are usually virtual but other activities require in-person involvement.
