Call for Volunteer Board Treasurer (April 2025)

Canadian Women in Cannabis (CWIC) is looking for a dedicated and passionate individual to

join our Board of Directors as Treasurer

The Board Treasurer plays a vital role in supporting CWIC's mission. This is a volunteer position and a fantastic opportunity to contribute to the cannabis industry while expanding your network.

CWIC Board Treasurer

The CWIC Board Treasurer, an essential member of the CWIC Board governance, is appointed as outlined in the CWIC By-Laws. The Treasurer is responsible for overseeing CWIC's finances to ensure they are soundly managed, and for updating CWIC Board Members on the organization's financial position at each BOD meeting.

Key Responsibilities

● Establish and implement effective financial practices, controls and procedures for CWIC ● Inform Board members of the financial status of CWIC at each Board meeting ● Provide guidance on budgeting, financial planning and reporting ● Lead on board committees or initiatives related to financial matters

CWIC’s Financial Management System

● Establish day‐to‐day accounting, financial practices, information systems and controls. ● Ensure finances are maintained in line with policies, legal/regulatory requirements ● Banking - act as a counter‐signatory for CWIC’s bank account transactions ● Audit - Work closely with the audit team or independent examiner. ● Develop and implement financial, reserves and investment policies ● Risk Assessment - conduct risk assessment, ensure stability, ability to fulfill its mission ● Present budgets, accounts, financial statements, advisory on strategic plans ● Assume a leadership role on board committees or initiatives related to financial matters

Qualifications/Skills/ Experience Preferred

● Financial/Accounting Background (degree or certification) ● Nonprofit Experience (CRA guidelines and T1044) ● Financial Management ● Governance Knowledge ● Risk Assessment ● Fundraising Acumen
