Treasurer
POSITION SUMMARY
Elected by the Atlantic Branch Board of Directors, the Treasurer reports on financial performance to the Atlantic Branch Board of Directors and advises the Board on financial matters.
ACCOUNTABILITY
The Treasurer reports to the President and is accountable to the Branch Board of Directors.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
All the duties and responsibilities of a Branch Director, plus:
- reports on the Branch’s overall financial performance at each meeting of the Board of
Directors
- presents the annual financial report at the AGM
- is a signing officer of The Kidney Foundation of Canada
- assists the Executive Director in the preparation of the annual budget and presentation of the budget to the board for approval
- monitors revenues and expenditures of the Branch
- provides advice on financial matters to the Board and Executive Director
- deals with other matters that require the attention of the Treasurer
- provides orientation to his/her successor
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
- knowledge and understanding of The Kidney Foundation
- financial management expertise and experience
- a professional accounting designation would be an asset
- understands financial accounting for non-for-profit organizations
- good interpersonal, organizational and communication skills
COMMITMENTS
Meetings
Attendance
- Annual General Meeting (May)
- Board Meetings consisting of four annually including the meeting held during the AGM Conference calls will be the norm with the exception of the AGM.
- Executive Committee meetings as required
Preparation and Follow-up
- Pre-reading for Board meetings
- Provides financial reports in a timely manner
- reviews financial reports with Executive Director prior to meetings
- prepares presentations for the Board of Directors as requested.
Other
- $10 annual membership fee;
TENURE
The Treasurer is elected annually by the Branch Board of Directors at the first Board meeting following the Annual General Meeting. Officers may serve a maximum of six years.
