Position Overview

Samawada is seeking a qualified and experienced Board Member – Treasurer with strong knowledge of Canadian nonprofit and charitable finance.

The Treasurer plays a critical governance role in overseeing the financial health, compliance, and sustainability of the organization. This individual will provide strategic financial guidance to the Board and ensure adherence to Canadian charity regulations and best practices.

This is a volunteer governance position and an opportunity to contribute leadership expertise to a growing humanitarian organization.

Key Responsibilities

Provide financial oversight and strategic guidance to the Board of Directors.

Review and present financial statements at Board meetings.

Monitor budgets, cash flow, and financial performance.

Ensure compliance with Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) regulations for registered charities.

Oversee preparation and submission of the annual T3010 Registered Charity Information Return.

Support the development of annual budgets in collaboration with management.

Advise on financial policies, controls, and risk management practices.

Ensure appropriate internal controls and financial accountability systems are in place.

Provide oversight for audits or independent financial reviews (if applicable).

Support long-term financial sustainability planning and reserve management.

Qualifications & Experience

Professional experience in finance, accounting, or financial management.

Experience working with or advising Canadian registered charities.

Strong understanding of CRA charity compliance requirements.

Familiarity with nonprofit financial reporting and governance.

Experience reviewing financial statements and budgets.

Knowledge of financial controls and risk management.

CPA designation is an asset but not required.

Previous board experience is an asset.

Time Commitment
