Job Title: Board Member Treasurer – Volunteer Position

Organization: Rexdale Women’s Centre
Employment Type: Volunteer, Full-Time Board Member

Location: Virtual with 3 in person meetings in the Rexdale Neighbourhood Etobicoke. Number of positions open: up to 2

About the Organization

Rexdale Women’s Center (RWC) is a non-profit, community-based organization dedicated to supporting immigrant, refugee, and low-income women and their families in achieving self-sufficiency, safety, and well-being. We provide culturally sensitive services that empower women through advocacy, education, and support programs.

Position Summary

The Treasurer serves as a key member of the Board of Directors, ensuring the financial health and accountability of the organization. This role is critical in safeguarding resources, supporting sustainable growth, and ensuring compliance with non-profit regulations. You will contribute your expertise to support effective policy development, provide organizational oversight, and community engagement, helping RWC achieve its mission and deepen its impact.

Key Responsibilities

  • Attend and actively participate in 10-12 Board meetings a year.
  • Contribute to the work of Board committees (e.g., Finance, Governance, Fundraising, HR) based on expertise and interest.
  • Provide input on strategic planning, budgeting, and goal-setting.
  • Ensure organizational integrity by upholding legal and policy compliance.
  • Help identify and mitigate strategic, financial, legal, and reputational risks.
  • Support fundraising initiatives, including donor engagement and participating in community events.
  • Serve as an ambassador for RWC in the community and with stakeholders.
  • Assist with evaluating the performance of executive leadership and overall organizational performance.
  • Contribute to Board recruitment, orientation, and leadership succession planning to maintain strong governance.
  • Champion and uphold the mission, values and vision of Rexdale Women’s Center.

Qualifications

  • A strong commitment to the mission and values of Rexdale Women’s Centre.
  • Background in accounting, finance, or business (CPA or similar experience is a plus).
  • Previous Board or senior leadership experience is an asset.
  • Understanding of non-profit financial management.
  • Strong integrity, attention to detail, and communication skills.
  • Understanding of the unique challenges facing immigrant, refugee, and marginalized women in Canada.
  • Capacity to commit the time and energy necessary to fulfill Board duties.

Time Commitment

  • Approx. 6–10 hours/month (board and committee meetings, preparation, community engagement)
  • Term: Typically, 2–3 years (renewable)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with culturally diverse and equity-seeking communities
  • Familiarity with the non-profit sector in Ontario or nationally
  • Proficient in reviewing and interpreting financial statements.
