Upper Island Soccer Association (UISA) is a youth sport body serving thousands of individuals each year with a mission to develop and advance soccer excellence. Guided by a volunteer Board of Directors, we are committed to fostering participation, development, and excellence in sport while maintaining strong governance and financial stewardship
Previous soccer or other athletic experience is not required! We are seeking individuals from a wide range of backgrounds who can contribute professional skills, expertise, and perspectives to strengthen the Association's governance and long-term success
Position Overview
The Board Treasurer is a volunteer officer Of the Board Of Directors responsible for overseeing the financial affairs of the Association. Working closely with fellow board members, staff, and external financial service providers, the Treasurer helps ensure the organization's financial integrity, sustainability, and compliance with applicable regulations and policies.
This is an excellent opportunity for an individual who wants to contribute their financial knowledge and leadership skills to a growing organization.
Key Responsibilities
Board Directors can expect to spend 3-6 hours per month on UISA work, including:
- Preparation for and attending monthly Board meetings on the 3rd Monday of every month
- Being responsive to staff and Board communications (emails, electronic voting)
- Fulfilling Action Items from Board meetings.
- Participating on committees or working groups as required.
- Attending the Annual General Meeting
Treasurer-specific responsibilities:
- Review and present financial reports, budgets, and forecasts to the Board
- Support the development and monitoring of the annual operating budget.
- Ensure appropriate financial controls, policies, and practices are in place
- Assist with the preparation and review Of annual financial statements.
- Liaise with bookkeepers, accountants, auditors, and financial institutions as required
- Ensure compliance with relevant financial, legal, and reporting obligations.
- Serve as a signing authority as approved by the Board
Qualifications & Skills
- Experience in accounting, bookkeeping, finance, or a related field
- CPA designation preferred
- Previous board or nonprofit experience is considered an asset but is not required
