Board Member: Ontario Caregiver Coalition
About Us
Established in 2012 and a registered non-profit since 2019, the Ontario Caregiver Coalition is a grassroots, volunteer-driven coalition of unpaid caregivers and organizations that work to support caregivers in Ontario. Our goal is to be the voice of Ontario’s unpaid caregivers — the family, friends, and neighbours who provide supports that allow people living with disability, acute illness, or frailty to live with dignity and in comfort. Caregivers are essential to our communities, but because of the lack of supports in place, they often struggle with financial distress, social isolation and compromised health.
Join us in helping build a better Ontario for caregivers by serving on our Board of Directors.
Who are our Board Members?
Our Board members are unpaid caregivers, organizational members, and caregiver advocates who are passionate about making change. Board members provide governance oversight and strategic direction for the OCC. As we are a volunteer-driven organization, this is a working Board, with members serving vital roles on our various committees. Board members generally dedicate between 4 and 10 hours per month to the organization.
Who are you?
We’re looking for people who are passionate about improving caregiver supports to join our Board. If you are motivated, responsible, and a team player, you’ll fit right in.
Board members should expect to dedicate between 4 and 8 hours per month to this role.
At this time, we are particularly looking for Board members with skills in:
- Government relations
- Communications
- Media engagement, social media management, and public awareness campaigning
- Human Resources
- Resource Development
While applications from current or previous caregivers are highly encouraged, the OCC understands that many caregivers lack the time and energy to put towards advocacy work, and we also welcome applications from those who haven’t yet been caregivers. We are also looking for individuals who have worked in professional roles that have exposed them to caregiving experiences.
Additionally, as a coalition dedicated to advocacy work for caregivers, we are actively seeking to add Board members with lived experiences of underrepresentation. If you identify as BIPOC, disabled, LGBTQIA2S+ or another marginalized community, we strongly encourage you to apply.
Committees
We also welcome applications from individuals interested in joining one of our Committees. This is a great way to contribute to change in a more flexible manner, and offers an opportunity to learn more about our organization and how we work. Our Board Committees include Membership and Governance, Research and Advocacy, Partnership, Communications and Awareness, and the Caregiver Advisory Committee.
How to apply:
To apply, please send an email to ontariocaregivercoalitionocc@gmail.com by July 4th, 2026 and include a cover letter and your resume with relevant experience.
Note: This is an unpaid volunteer position.
