Gilda’s Club Simcoe Muskoka is a non-profit cancer support community providing free social and emotional support to individuals and families touched by cancer. Rooted in compassion and connection, we offer programs, resources, and community-based experiences that help people build resilience, find strength, and share hope ensuring no one faces cancer alone.
Board Opportunity
We are seeking a dedicated and community-minded individual with professional experience in mental health or psychosocial care to join our Board of Directors. This role is ideal for someone passionate about community wellness, evidence-informed programming, strong governance, and visible community engagement. The successful candidate will also help guide the development of a Medical Advisory Committee to further enhance program quality, and healthcare partnerships. Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Social Work (MSW), or
- Registered Psychotherapist, or
- Psychologist (registered or eligible for registration)
- Experience supporting individuals or families touched by cancer, illness, grief, trauma, or life transitions
- Experience working or volunteering in the non-profit sector is a strong asset
- Familiarity with interdisciplinary collaboration or advisory committee development is beneficial
- Strong ethical judgment, discretion, and a collaborative governance mindset
- Willingness to serve as a visible ambassador for Gilda’s Club Simcoe Muskoka
Responsibilities
- Serve as a volunteer Board Director with fiduciary responsibility, acting in the best interests of the organization and ensuring sound governance, financial oversight, and compliance with applicable legislation and policies
- Contribute to strategic direction, risk oversight, and organizational sustainability
- Participate in the Programming Committee, offering psychosocial and clinical insight
- Support the development and evolution of a Medical Advisory Committee, including advising on scope, purpose, and membership
- Attend bi-monthly Board meetings (summer break observed)
- Serve as a community ambassador by attending fundraising, outreach, and community events when possible
- Represent Gilda’s Club Simcoe Muskoka positively within professional, healthcare, and community networks
Term & Time Commitment
- Board term: two (3) years, with eligibility to serve up to two (2) consecutive terms
- Bi-monthly Board meetings (approximately 2 hours)
- Quarterly Program Committee (2-4 hours)
- Participation available virtually or in person
