Board Member, Board of Directors Remote Position Three (3) Vacancies

ABOUT OUR BOARD

The Grief Stories Board of Directors are a small, passionate working Board furthering our strategic vision, supporting our Operations team of volunteers, and preparing for our upcoming 10 Year anniversary in 2026! Applicants have a unique and exciting opportunity to guide our mission on the cusp of our anniversary and be hands-on in supporting those in grief. Some projects we are working on are: creating new ways of collaborating as a virtual organization, exploring new exciting partnered projects, expanding our fund development portfolio, and utilizing our content in new ways to help expand our reach 10 years and beyond!

OVERALL DUTIES

Each individual Board Member is expected to: Know the organization’s mission, policies, programs and needs Read and understand the organization’s monthly financial reports Follow the organization’s by-laws, policies and Board resolutions Maintain confidentiality about all internal matters of the organization Serve as active advocates and ambassadors for the organization Leverage connections, networks, and resources to develop collective action to fully achieve the organization’s mission Prepare for, attend and conscientiously participate in online Board meetings Participate in 1 of 3 monthly Working Group meetings

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

We are seeking applicants with: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Ability to build and maintain relationships with donors and potential supporters Passion for Grief Stories’ mission and a commitment to supporting those grieving the loss of a loved one Ability to work remotely with stable internet connection Expertise and skills in any of the following areas: Fundraising, Marketing, Donor Relations, Project Management Strong understanding of fundraising strategies and non-profit revenue generation considered an asset Experience in fundraising, preferably within a non-profit organization considered an asset

BENEFITS

A comprehensive training/orientation package will be provided to new Board members, as well as a one-on-one virtual meeting with the Board Chair and Executive Director to respond to any questions.

TRAINING INFORMATION

Board members are to ensure they attend Orientation training and complete the orientation checklist within their first month on the board.

Grief Stories, a Canadian charitable non-profit organization, strives for a world where people in grief feel supported and connected. We passionately believe sharing stories and insights fosters connection, helping people to cope with grief and make sense of it. Grief Stories is privately accessible anywhere, anytime as a community health resource. We offer a vast library of content from people with lived experience and professionals sharing stories and insights about grief including videos, blog posts, podcast episodes, creative strategies for healing, and toolkits. As a completely virtual organization, people can access our library of content, vetted by healthcare professionals, anywhere, any time. Founded by those experiencing grief in 2016, Grief Stories was one of the first charities completely virtual organizations to offer free resources on grief and grieving.

TIME COMMITMENT The term of office is two years, with a maximum of two consecutive terms 6 hours per month which includes attending our monthly Board meeting and 1 of 3 Working Group meetings (that align with Board member’s interests and skillsets post orientation)
