Organization West End Community Centre Association

Mission Statement:
Our mission is to enhance the quality of life of the West End and Coal Harbour communities by providing recreational, educational, and social activities and services, which are accessible and responsive to the changing needs of the communities.

Who we are:
The West End Community Centre Association (WECCA) is driven by a volunteer board of directors – people just like you. WECCA operates in partnership with the Vancouver Board of Parks and Recreation to provide recreational, educational and social activities and services including group fitness classes, community events, room rentals, pottery classes and language classes – even and ice rink! We offer these activities, plus much more at Barclay Manor, Coal Harbour and West End Community Centres. We serve all ages from newborns to seniors.

The work of the Board includes monthly board meetings plus participation in the key committees which oversee the various key program areas of our operations. Committees are chaired by a Board member and include Park Board program staff and community volunteers who aren’t on the Board.

Current Committees are as follows:

• Children and Youth Committee
• Adult Programs Committee
• Marketing and Marketing Committee
• Finance
• Executive

• A belief in the importance of neighbourhood-based community centres
• Knowledge of excellence in customer service
• An understanding of respectful workplace policies
• Interest in and knowledge of activities and support programs
• Desire to work in a team to develop and foster community spirit
• Interest in working and developing grass roots democracy
• Interest in non-profit governance
• Strong communication skills
• Interest in getting involved in, and making a contribution to your community

Deliverables / Duties

• Makes decisions on membership issues
• Represents community interests
• Works together with other Board Directors
• Monitors financial and physical assets
• Provides oversight re: staff and contractors of WECCA​
• Strengthens working relationship with the community
• Collaborates with the Vancouver Board of Parks and Recreation to enhance the operations of and planning for the Community Centre
• Acts as an ambassador of WE​CCA at community events
• Must adhere to oath of office an conflict of interest guidelines
• May not be employed by WECCA or Vancouver Park Board

Time requirements:

• Initial Board Director term is 2 years, starting in January, 2026 (may be appointed to the Board until that time)
• Board meetings are held the second Tuesday each month, usually from 6:00-7:00PM
• Committee meetings are held monthly (dates and times are flexible)
• Attendance at special events encouraged.
• Occasional requirements to participate during the day on Weekends

Time commitment Could be up to 6 hours per month

Time & Day of Volunteer Engagement Weekdays; evening and occasional daytime weekend times

Work Location Meetings are primarily held at the West End Community Centre – 870 Denman St Vancouver BC V6G 2L8 , but at least some meetings and events take place at Coal Harbour.
