The Krasman Centre is seeking new board members!
About Krasman Centre
The Krasman Centre is a Consumer/Survivor Organization that offers peer support-based programs, physical hubs and resources for people with lived experience of mental health, substance use, housing challenges, and their family and friends. We serve York Region, areas of Simcoe County and North Toronto, with drop-in centres in Richmond Hill, Newmarket, and Alliston. Our mission is to support and empower people affected by mental health and/or addiction challenges by providing inclusive peer-support programs. Our vision is people with lived experience of mental health and/or addiction challenges living full lives of their choosing within supportive, inclusive communities.
Krasman is a non-profit organization supported by many sources including Ontario Health, York Region, and the United Way. The Board of Directors is a hands-on and collaborative group of volunteers who provide governance and policy leadership to the Centre. The Board meets monthly and the meetings are usually 2 hours in length. These meetings are usually virtual, with the occasional in-person meeting.
What we are looking for in new Board members
We are looking for committed people who want to make a difference in their community. In particular we are looking for people who bring certain skills to the table and who represent the rich diversity of the areas we serve. Skills might include financial accounting and budgeting for non-profits, fundraising and resource development; community relations (especially with marginalized and under-represented communities); marketing and communications; and advocacy and government relations. Further we are specifically looking to fill 2 Board role vacancies at this time, that may or may not be of interest: Board Treasurer, and Board Secretary.
Krasman Centre is committed to maintaining an equitable and inclusive space. We strive to dismantle all forms of racism and oppression in their many intersections. Equity and inclusion are a priority for us, and the goal is to ensure that the entire organizational membership will strive to actively create a safe, inclusive, and equitable environment that is free from racism and other forms of oppression. While all qualified candidates are invited to apply, we particularly encourage and welcome applications from candidates with personal lived experience with mental health and/or addiction challenges, from women and those who identify as non-binary, persons with disabilities, Black, Indigenous peoples, members of racialized and marginalized communities, 2SLGBTQ+ persons, marginalized religious/spiritual communities, and all who experience racism and various forms of oppression.
