Mothercraft Ottawa is seeking motivated and dedicated individuals to join its Board of Directors.

About the Organization
Mothercraft Ottawa, a leader in early learning and care since 1944, is a charitable non-profit organization that enriches the well-being of families with infants and young children through responsive, high-quality programs and services.
Mothercraft Ottawa delivers childcare for children aged 6 weeks to 12 years through licensed childcare centres and home childcare, and before-and-after-school programs.
We support the evolving needs of families in Ottawa through our wide-ranging children and family services, including comprehensive prenatal and parenting classes and workshops, perinatal support, programming for children with special needs, as well as an array of services offered through our EarlyON Child and Family Centre and outreach programming.
About the Board of Directors
Operating as a governance Board, the volunteer Board of Directors, comprised of nine members, provides oversight of the organization’s activities and performance and sets the strategic direction. The Executive Director is accountable to the Board.
Our Board of Directors:
Supports and promotes the organization’s mission and values (https://mothercraft.com/about-us/)
- Provides strategic leadership and direction to the organization.
- Establishes policies to guide the organization’s operations.
- Approves and oversees the organization’s budget and financial performance.
- Explores innovative ways to promote and expand services and supports.
Mothercraft Ottawa values the different perspectives, knowledge, skills and interests that each member brings to the Board.
Time Commitment
Board meetings, approximately two hours in duration, are typically held six times per year in the evening, alternating in person and virtually.
Term
Directors are elected to the Board for a term of three years to a maximum of three terms. We ask that Directors prepare to commit to at least three years.
Eligibility Requirements
- At least 18 years old.
- Work or live in the National Capital Region.
- Available to regularly attend Board meetings.
- Supportive of the organization’s mission and values.
Qualifications
We are particularly interested in hearing from individuals with strong backgrounds in one or more of the following areas:
- Finance/Financial Management
- Legal
- Fundraising/Financial Partnerships
- Human Resource Management
- Strategic Communications
All candidates are expected to demonstrate lived experience or professional experience or allyship to equity-deserving and underserved populations. Previous Board experience is not essential but will be considered an asset.
