About Harmony Place
Harmony Place provides individualized day programs and supports for adults with multiple disabilities. With an annual operating budget of approximately $1.7 million, Harmony Place receives core funding from the Ontario Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services, along with client fees and community support.
Harmony Place is governed by a dedicated volunteer Board of Directors made up of community members who help guide the organization’s strategic direction, governance, and long-term sustainability.
We are currently seeking compassionate, community-minded individuals to join our Board and help shape the future of our organization.

We welcome applicants from a wide range of backgrounds and experiences. Whether you have previous board experience or are looking to contribute your skills in a meaningful way for the first time, we encourage you to apply.

We are particularly interested in individuals with experience or skills in:
- Law
- Communications and marketing
- Fundraising and community engagement
- Finance, governance, or strategic planning
- The charitable or non-profit sector
Ideal candidates will also bring:
- A passion for inclusion and supporting persons with disabilities
- Strong collaboration and communication skills
- The ability to contribute thoughtfully to discussions and decision-making
- Community connections and relationship-building skills
- An interest in supporting the growth and sustainability of Harmony Place
- Knowledge of Ontario’s Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services regulations is considered an asset, but is not required.
Responsibilities
Board Members play an important role in supporting the success and accountability of the organization. Responsibilities include:
- Attending and actively participating in Board and committee meetings
- Contributing to strategic planning, policy development, and organizational oversight
- Supporting sound financial stewardship, including reviewing and approving annual budgets
- Acting as an ambassador for Harmony Place within the community
- Supporting fundraising initiatives in ways that align with your interests and availability
- Assisting in identifying and managing organizational risks
- Supporting and evaluating the Executive Director
- Ensuring the organization remains compliant with legal and regulatory requirements
Time Commitment
Harmony Place recognizes that Board members are balancing many commitments, and we strive to make participation both meaningful and manageable.
Board meetings are held every 2–3 months and typically last approximately one to two hours. Meetings take place on weekday evenings (usually Tuesdays or Thursdays) and are primarily held virtually via Zoom, with occasional in-person meetings as needed.
Board members are also encouraged to participate in committees that align with their interests and expertise, such as:
- Governance Committee
- Fundraising Committee
Attendance at the Annual General Meeting, held in person each fall, is required.
