
Board Member
The House of Hope-La Maison de L'Espérance, located in Ottawa, is seeking committed, community-minded individuals to join its volunteer Board of Directors. We currently are currently seeking candidates with the following expertise in the area of accounting, justice, social work/ psychology, addictions and trauma work, housing sector, criminology, government relations and media/IT/ experience with AI.
The House of Hope-La Maison de L'Espérance was founded in 1974 by Yvon Leblanc, a reformed offender who noticed a growing need for supporting offenders during their transition back into the community. He believed that support and treatment during the reintegration process would reduce the rate of recidivism and better facilitate the development of a safe community. To this day, responsible reintegration through individual support and adherence to community safety continue to be the cornerstones of the House of Hope-La Maison de L'Espérance. For over 55 years, House of Hope has worked to increase community safety by supporting the safe reintegration of individuals returning from federal custody.
Board members provide governance oversight and leadership contributing to the organization’s sustainability, accountability, and impact, acting as an ambassador for House of Hope and its mission statement and values. We welcome diverse perspectives and lived experience that reflect the communities we serve.
All applicants must possess the following:
● Passionate about reintegrating offenders on conditional release while maintaining public safety needs.
● Commitment to a client-centered, strengths-based approach.
● Personal competencies must include integrity and trustworthiness, reliability and an ability to listen to others, respect and accept differing perspectives.
● Ability to give 2-3 hours per month for the review of reports including financials, committee work when required as well as attending 7-9 monthly meetings which typically are between 1-1.5 hour in length and generally not held in the months of December, July and August.
