About Causeway Work Centre

Causeway Work Centre is a community-based organization in Ottawa that empowers people facing barriers to employment to move toward meaningful, sustainable work. Through employment programs, skills development, and social enterprise, we create real-world opportunities for individuals to build confidence, gain experience, and develop the skills needed to succeed. Our work is rooted in inclusion, community, and the belief that everyone deserves the opportunity to participate fully in the workforce.

What You Will Do

  • Set policy and develop strategy to guide the organization’s mission and growth
  • Ensure adequate financial and organizational resources are in place to meet strategic goals
  • Approve the annual budget, audit reports, and financial statements
  • Attend and actively participate in Board meetings, reviewing agendas and materials in advance
  • Serve on at least one Board committee, such as Strategic Planning, Finance, or Governance
  • Support and promote Causeway’s work in the community

What We’re Looking For

  • Fundraising or donor development
  • Lived experience, either as a former Causeway client or someone who has faced barriers to employment
  • Financial expertise (accounting, finance), with prior experience serving as a Treasurer
  • Mental health or social services
  • Local business or employer engagement

We welcome and encourage applicants with diverse backgrounds and perspectives, especially those rooted in the Ottawa community.

Commitment

  • The Board meets 6 times annually between September to June
  • Committees meet approximately 4 - 6 times per year, as required
  • Directors are elected for a 2-year term, renewable up to a maximum of 6 years
  • Board meetings are primarily held in person, with some virtual meetings as required
