Volunteer Position Title:

Board Member

Calgary Humane Society is seeking candidates for our Board of Directors.

Calgary Humane Society is seeking dedicated volunteers who reflect a broad range of backgrounds, lived experiences, and perspectives. Ideal candidates will demonstrate excellence in their field of expertise and bring a strong combination of leadership, integrity, care, and vision that supports effective governance and responsible oversight.

Priority will be given to individuals who have the time, interest, and commitment to contribute meaningfully to the organization’s ongoing growth and impact. Candidates should be motivated to help guide the strategic direction, long-term sustainability, and financial stewardship of Calgary Humane Society.

Following a review of the current Board composition, the Calgary Humane Society Board Executive Committee has identified the following skills and areas of professional expertise as particularly valuable in fulfilling the Board’s mandate:

• Estate Law
• Employment Law
• Human Resources
• Volunteer Engagement
• Cyber Risk Management

Other Requirements:

• Previous experience serving on a Board of Directors not required but considered an asset.
• Genuine interest in the welfare of animals and values congruent with the organization
• Successful candidates will be required to submit a Police Information Check.

Commitment:

• Three (3) year term
• Attend eight (8) Board meetings, the last Tuesday of each month
• Attendance at the Annual General Meeting (April)
• Attendance at special events; Dog Jog, Cocktails for Critters, Home for the Holidays and other fundraising and donor appreciation events
• Serve on at least one Board committee and actively contribute to its work.
• Financial donation (no set quantum) per annum
• Active Membership of Calgary Humane Society
