Board Member Job Posting

Location: Ishtar's office in Langley and remote (rotating)

Ishtar Women's Resource Society (Ishtar) is seeking one Board member to join the

Board of Directors.

Key Duties

Acts honestly and in good faith prioritizing the best interests of Ishtar.

Uses their skills and knowledge to ethically advance the vision and mission of

Ishtar.

Exercises the care, diligence, and skill that a reasonably prudent individual would

exercise in comparable circumstances.

Acts in accordance with the BC Society Act, its regulations, and the bylaws of

Ishtar.

Attends the ten (10) board meetings and the Annual General meeting, in

person or virtually in alternate months and as required.

Support awareness raising campaigns, fundraising efforts, and the overall work of

Ishtar.

In collaboration with other directors

Sets the strategic direction of the organization.

Provides financial and legal stewardship by approving the annual budget in a

manner consistent with the strategic plan and its goals and priorities; safeguards

the stability and endurance of the organization; ensuring that all legal

requirements are met.

Monitors and evaluates Ishtar's performance and organizational effectiveness.

Hires and evaluates the performance of the Executive Director.

Serve on one or more committees as needed.

Performs other governance functions as required.

Requirements & Skills

Possesses knowledge and skills in one or more areas of governance, finance,

public relations, human resources, housing, legal, policy and fund-raising.

Is committed to the work of Ishtar as a woman-serving agency advocating

and supporting women survivors of violence.

Is able to engage in critical and strategic thinking.

Good verbal and written communication skills.

Meets BC Society's Act qualifications.

Resides in British Columbia.

Is able to commit an average of five (5) hours per month to the governance of

Ishtar.

Vulnerable sector criminal records check required.
