
Board Member
The Canadian Celiac Association Edmonton Chapter (CCA Edmonton) is seeking several volunteer, part-time, board members, including Secretary and Directors at Large.
About the Organization:
CCA Edmonton is a not for profit, charitable organization incorporated under the Alberta Societies Act in 1984. CCA Edmonton is a chapter of Celiac Canada, dedicated to providing service and support to persons with celiac disease, dermatitis herpetiformis and gluten intolerance, through awareness, education, events and research support. CCA Edmonton hosts a number of events annually, with a focus on supporting people newly diagnosed with celiac disease, raising awareness of celiac disease and the challenges of a gluten-free lifestyle, family, community and all-ages events, as well as fundraising.
About the Board:
The CCA Edmonton board is a working board, made up of volunteers who are interested in supporting the celiac and gluten-affected community. Board members provide governance, direction and accountability for the organization, and lead the work of developing and implementing the programs, services and events provided by CCA Edmonton. Most board meetings and committee work is done virtually/remotely.
All board positions are two-year terms. Board members can run for multiple terms, with no term limits. Board members do not need to be celiac or suffer from any other gluten-related disorder. However, board members must be a member of the CCA Edmonton. A lifetime membership costs a one-time, $20.00 fee, and can be purchased here.
Time Commitment:
The time commitment for a CCA Edmonton Board member varies, depending upon the number of activities a Board member chooses to participate in. Time committed to the Board may include up to 20 hours per month, contributing:
- A minimum of 2 – 4 hours per month for meetings and preparation time,
- A few hours per week to address CCA Edmonton email, and other administrative duties, and
- Additional time to support committee meetings, plan events and participate in events when they occur.
Positions:
Secretary (1 position):
The Secretary works with the board as a whole to manage CCA Edmonton affairs with a time commitment of up to 20 hours per month. The Secretary is responsible for: preparing agendas for all meetings of the board; keeping accurate minutes of these meetings; maintaining relevant board and committee files on Google Drive, as appropriate, using best practices; and carrying out other duties as assigned by the board, including committee work and volunteering at events.
Director at Large (multiple positions):
The Director at Large (DAL) works with the board as a whole to manage CCA Edmonton affairs. The DAL attends monthly board meetings, and other committee meetings as required. The DAL role is an important volunteer leadership role for CCA Edmonton, with a time commitment of up to 20 hours per month, depending on time of year, the type of projects and initiatives underway, and the number of committees the DAL chooses to participate on. The DAL is responsible for: attending and participating in monthly Board Meetings; and carrying out other duties as assigned by the Board, including committee work and volunteering at events.
