About us
The Beechwood Cemetery, Canada’s national cemetery, and The Beechwood Foundation are seeking new members to join its Boards of Directors. The Foundation is a charitable entity and the Cemetery Board deals with the operations.
As stewards of one of our country’s most historic and culturally significant institutions, our Directors play an essential role in ensuring Beechwood’s long-term sustainability and in guiding its mission to preserve heritage, honour our veterans, and serve families with compassion.
What you will do
- Provide strategic guidance and oversight to the organization.
- Participate in board meetings and contribute to decision-making processes.
- Ensure the organization adheres to its mission and values.
- Monitor financial performance and ensure fiscal responsibility.
- Collaborate with other board members and executive leadership to drive organizational success.
What we are looking for
We are seeking individuals with a strong commitment to community service and expertise in one or more of the following areas:
- Accounting, Finance, and Investments – experience with financial oversight, risk management, or fiduciary responsibilities.
- Information Technology and Cybersecurity – knowledge of digital governance, system resilience, and data protection.
- Political Acumen – awareness of government relations, public policy, or community engagement.
- Stakeholder Relations – experience building relationships with policymakers, associations, or diverse community groups.
- Governance and Leadership – prior experience serving on a board of directors or in senior management roles or in other philanthropic organizations.
- Fundraising – expertise in philanthropic organizations and their needs.
- Equity, Diversity and Inclusion principles – involvement in diverse communities found in Ottawa.
- Proficiency in French and English would be an asset
