The Robert Kerr Foundation (RKF) is recruiting two new volunteer board directors to join our strong governance team during a strategic phase of planning and development.

Who We Are

RKF is an endowed private foundation based in Toronto, Canada. We make grants each year to support local charities working in the areas of homelessness, education, and youth wellbeing. Grants are decided by RKF’s board of directors, with support from our excellent part-time Executive Director. Whom We’re Looking For

We welcome applicants with a wide range of knowledge and experience, and a commitment to RKF’s mission.

Combinations of the following skills and experiences will be prioritized in 2025:

  • Experience and interest in philanthropy, grant-making, and/or the non-profit sector
  • Lived experience and/or leadership experience in RKF’s focus areas of homelessness and/or youth programming
  • Experience in policy and process development
  • Governance experience; or a strong interest and commitment to governance training
  • Professional finance background and/or experience in non-profit financial management with an interest in social impact investing
  • Commitment to and understanding of inclusion, diversity, equity, and access (IDEA)
  • Located in the Greater Toronto Area

Board responsibilities and time commitment:

  • Director terms are for one year, renewable. A minimum three-year commitment is requested.
  • Four in-person board meetings are held per year in downtown Toronto, generally from 10am-12pm on a weekday. In-person attendance is preferred, but a remote option can be made available in extenuating circumstances.
  • Board meetings and communications are conducted in English.
  • RKF can reimburse directors for reasonable expenses, such as travel to meetings.
  • Orientation and ongoing opportunities for professional development will be provided.
  • RKF has Directors and Officers (D&O) liability insurance in place.
  • The overall time commitment is approximately 36-40 hours per year, including board meetings, AGM, reading package materials, reviewing grant applications, and emails.
  • Please note that there is no fundraising involved.

  • Candidates selected for conversational interviews will be contacted by early November
  • Conversational interviews over Zoom are planned to be scheduled by mid November
  • Successful nominees will be elected to the board in December 2025
