Board of Directors - Volunteer Director at Large and Vice Chair
Join our Board of Directors and help our “Good Dogs Doing Great Work!”
Ottawa Therapy Dogs (OTD) is a charitable organization that strives to create a healthier community - one therapy dog visit at a time. Through our canine-assisted interventions, our volunteer handlers work with their own dogs by visiting our pre-approved facilities to provide comfort and care to those who need it most.
OTD operates under the guidance of a dedicated volunteer Board of Directors. We are seeking applicants for a number of vacancies, including Vice Chair and Directors at Large.
The Board of Directors is responsible for overseeing the organization’s operations while maintaining our commitment to the organization’s mission. This involves establishing our strategic direction, ensuring compliance with applicable legal requirements, and keeping our organization financially healthy. Board members take an active role in committees, including Member Outreach, Fundraising, and Strategic Planning.
We seek those with Board or volunteer experience with charitable organizations, but we welcome anyone who believes in the power of the human-animal bond and is willing to learn and dedicate their time and skills to advancing the work of the organization.
Director Responsibilities:
- Active participation in at least one virtual Board meeting per month (no meetings in July and August). A few select meetings may be held in person.
- Attend the Annual General Meeting in May.
- Establish OTD’s strategic plan, organizational objectives, set policies, and assess the organization’s progress.
- Drive revenue growth by leveraging personal networks, cultivating donor relationships, and participating in fundraising events.
- Promote OTD’s mission and vision to donors, the community, stakeholders, and partners.
- Maintain effective partnerships and communication with the community, the organization’s members, and its stakeholders.
- Maintain open and honest communication with members, stakeholders, and the public.
- Become a Member of OTD ($30 annual fee).
Commitment: 2-year term, 3-5 hours/month
Meetings: Most meetings are held virtually. There may be a few in-person events during the year.
