
Board of Directors (Volunteer)
North House is currently seeking applications from interested community members, to join our Board of Directors. North House is a registered charity that provides support for those who are living in poverty within the communities of north Durham.
The ideal successful candidate should:
- Be an active participant by being prepared, sharing ideas freely and understanding the mandate/vision/objectives/policies of North House
- Ability to attend monthly evening meetings and occasional ad hoc meetings as required
- Attend any required training and the Annual General Meeting
- Have the ability to dedicate 5-10 hours per month of their time
- Help with and/or attend community events that North House may be involved in
The successful candidates will have the following characteristics:
- Ability to make a time commitment
- Good judgment
- Strong communication skills
- Compassion and respect for others
- Willingness to learn
- A sense of wider community and passion for the mission of the organization
- Board experience is an asset but not required
North House would welcome applications from individuals with experience in the following sectors:
- Legal
- Community/Social Services
- Social Housing/Poverty
- Fundraising
- Personal lived experience with homelessness or poverty
Expected Contribution
Board members are expected to commit 5-10 hours per month to North House activities including regularly attending monthly Board meetings and participating on at least one Board committee. Board members must be willing to support the work of North House and its fundraising activities.
