Description Carty House is a registered charity that provides transitional housing and support to refugee women in Ottawa. Carty House offers safety, accommodation and support to its residents as they move through the refugee system and build the resources necessary to live integrated and independent lives in Canadian society.
We are currently recruiting for the Secretary position on our Board of Directors. We are seeking a passionate and committed individual to serve as a board member who will contribute to realizing the organization’s vision and strategic objectives, guide its long-term development and financial sustainability, and provide leadership.
Carty House is an operational board and expects active participation from board members. Reporting to the Board Chair, board members provide oversight for programs and services, human, financial and physical resources, and promote Carty House within the community.
Board member (Secretary) responsibilities:
-Available to attend monthly board meetings (currently held every 4th Tuesday from 6 pm to 8 pm EST, virtual format for now)
-Able to commit at least 10 hours per month to the board (includes Committee participation)-Manage and distribute board meeting minutes and other documents in a timely manner
-Manage and update the board’s electronic records and filing system
-Ensure familiarity with relevant legal and administrative documents (articles, by-laws, etc.) and apply them during board meetings and Annual General Meetings
-Interest in supporting newcomers/refugees-Willingness to participate in Carty House activities and events-Openness to learning
-Ability to work effectively, professionally and collaboratively
