ABOUT ONE TO ONE
ONE TO ONE envisions a world where all B.C. children are inspired and engaged life-long learners.
Through our in-person and virtual tutoring programs, as well as our reading workshops for parents and caregivers, our programming leverages one-to-one connections, to help B.C. children develop literacy skills and reading confidence. The ONE TO ONE program began in 1989 as a collaboration between the Vancouver School Board and the Junior League of Greater Vancouver, and since that time we’ve helped over 20,000 students grow into thriving readers.
DIRECTOR RESPONSIBILITIES
Our board of directors holds 10-11 board meetings between September and July, and an annual general meeting (held in late November or early December). Meetings are held on the fourth Tuesday of each month from 4:00–6:00 p.m. and are typically held virtually (over Zoom). Directors are requested to serve on at least one board committee or working group (Governance, Human Resources, Finance, Program, or Fund Development), and those with the requisite experience are asked to consider serving in a leadership role as part of the board executive (as chair, vice-chair, treasurer or secretary). Directors are also asked to support fund development initiatives.
TIME COMMITMENT
Board members typically contribute an average of 4-5 hours per month between September–July. This consists of preparing for and attending a monthly board meeting, chairing/co-chairing/participating in committee meetings, and completing tasks that support board/committee projects as needed. Additional time may be requested of directors as needed by the organization. The minimum term is two calendar years, however, to ensure the strength and continuity of the board, we ask prospective members to consider this a longer-term commitment.
APPLICATION PROCESS
Interested candidates are asked to prepare a resume and letter of interest highlighting their skills and experience as it relates to the position.
Both may be submitted by email to our board executive at boardrecruitment@one-to-one.ca before the close of business on Friday, October 31, 2025.
We will contact the most qualified candidates to schedule an interview.
