Who We Are

The London Environmental Network (LEN) is an environmental charitable organization based in London, Ontario, Canada. The LEN helps to protect our environment and build a more sustainable city by offering environmental programs and climate action opportunities for all residents.

Our Vision

Our vision is for London to be known as one of the greenest and most resilient cities in Canada.

The Role of the Board

Our Board of Directors play a vital role in guiding LEN’s work. Board members oversee the governance and strategic direction of the Network. They meet regularly to provide feedback and support in all areas of the Network for LEN to thrive.

Current Opportunity

We are currently seeking additional members to serve as Directors and help LEN execute its vision. We have 6 vacancies on the Board, four of which are for leadership positions including:

  • Vice-Chair: Serves on the Executive Committee supporting leadership of the Board. Responsibilities include assisting the Chair in governance and mentorship and will assume Chair role in a future term.
  • Secretary: Serves on the Executive Committee supporting leadership of the Board. Responsibilities include maintaining records, and preparing and distributing meeting minutes.
  • Committee Chairs for Fundraising and Governance: Serves as General Board Member and leads the respective Committee’s meetings by setting agendas, and driving initiatives that support LEN’s mission. Acts as representative for the Committee at Board Meetings.

Experience and Skills

LEN is seeking action-oriented Board members with a variety of backgrounds. We welcome candidates from a wide variety of backgrounds, perspectives, and skills.

While there are specific skills we are actively recruiting for, they are not intended to be an exclusionary barrier. We welcome applications from individuals with lived experience that may not translate onto a paper resume, so that our Board can truly represent the people who benefit from our programs.

Some gaps we are looking to fill on the Board include people with experience in:

  • Legal knowledge and expertise
  • Financial/Accounting expertise (someone with a CPA designation is preferred)
  • Previous Board or non-profit organization experience is an asset

Time Commitments:

Newly elected directors shall be elected for a three-year (3) term with no more than 2 consecutive terms totalling six (6) years.

  • Monthly Board meetings - (10 per year), typically 2-3 hours each.
  • Participation on at least one additional committee.
  • 1-3 hours of independent work outside of scheduled meetings.
