Join our Mission as an SOS Children’s Villages Canada Board Member

Location: Whilst the SOS Children’s Villages Canada office is in Ottawa, Ontario, we are looking for suitable candidates across Canada.

Reporting to: Board chair

Position Type: voluntary; 3-4 Board meetings per year – in-person and virtual

Language: English essential, French highly desirable

Closing date: ongoing

The Board of SOS Canada wishes to create a pipeline of qualified candidates for Board membership in the coming months. Suitable candidates will be contacted individually for interviews upon expression of interest.

Founded in 1969, SOS Children’s Villages Canada is a member of the SOS Children’s Villages International federation. SOS Children’s Villages is dedicated to protecting children and advancing their rights in 137 countries and territories worldwide. We believe that children deserve more than just survival. They have a right to grow up in a safe and caring family environment, giving them the best chance of a secure future. Using a holistic approach, we work to empower vulnerable children, families, and communities to ensure children’s rights are met. Through programs focused on child protection, education, health, nutrition, economic empowerment and humanitarian responses, SOS Children’s Villages serves over 1 million people annually.

ABOUT THE ROLES

SOS Children’s Villages Canada is governed by a dedicated volunteer Board of Directors with a variety of professional expertise. Directors are currently based in Ottawa, Toronto, Calgary, Montreal and Windhoek/Namibia. The role of the Board is focused on fiduciary safeguarding and sustainable strategic development of the organization in a transparent, ethical, and legal manner. Up to 4 board meetings are held per calendar year to ensure the appropriate governance oversight by the Board of Directors.

There are 4 active board committees operating: Finance & Audit Committee, HR Committee, Governance Committee, and Program Committee.

SOS Children’s Villages Canada seeks to attract qualified and suitable candidates that share the passion of the organization to improve the lives of vulnerable children and families around the world.

In terms of qualifications and experience, we are seeking individuals with a particular focus in the areas of government relations/networking, access to high-net-worth individuals and/or relevant diaspora, legal expertise, and international development/child welfare experience.
