About Hand Up From Hunger Toronto
Hand Up From Hunger Toronto is a registered charity dedicated to ending food insecurity in our city. We believe that everyone deserves consistent access to nutritious food, dignity, and opportunity. Through community partnerships, programs, and advocacy, we work to address both the immediate and systemic causes of hunger across Toronto.
Role Overview
Hand Up From Hunger Toronto is seeking passionate, community-minded individuals to join our Board of Directors. As a Board Member, you will provide strategic leadership, governance oversight, and support to ensure the organization fulfills its mission, remains financially sustainable, and continues to grow its impact.
This is an excellent opportunity for individuals who want to make a meaningful difference in their community while contributing their skills, experience, and perspective to a mission-driven organization.
Key Responsibilities
Board Members are expected to:
· Provide governance and strategic oversight in alignment with the organization’s mission, vision, and values
· Participate in monthly board meetings and actively contribute to discussions and decision-making
· Support the executive team through guidance, accountability, and mentorship
· Ensure sound financial stewardship, including reviewing budgets, financial statements, and policies
· Assist with fundraising, donor stewardship, corporate sponsorship, and community outreach as appropriate
· Serve on board committees or task forces as needed
· Act as an ambassador for Hand Up From Hunger Toronto within the community
· Uphold fiduciary and legal responsibilities of a charitable board director
Desired Skills & Experience
We welcome applicants from diverse backgrounds and lived experiences. Experience in one or more of the following areas is an asset, but not required:
· Nonprofit or board governance
· Finance, accounting, or legal
· Fundraising, development, or grant writing
· Community outreach or partnerships
· Marketing, communications, or digital strategy
· Food security, social services, or public policy
Most importantly, candidates should share a strong commitment to addressing food insecurity and advancing equity in Toronto.
Time Commitment
· Monthly board meetings (typically 2–3 hours)
· Additional time for committee work, preparation, and special initiatives as needed
